Hello everyone!

We have some exciting news to share with you! He wasn’t looking for it, but our Financial Aid Program Coordinator Alan Alatorre-Barajas was offered and accepted his dream job creating curricula for Latine, migrant, and ELL youth that promotes Latine (and other authors of color) literature and illustrators for the Vamos Outdoors Project in April! Although it’s bittersweet to say goodbye to such a wonderful teammate at FuturesNW, we are beyond thrilled about this incredible opportunity Alan has to follow his big, important, beautiful dreams! As if all that awesomeness isn’t enough, Alan will also be starting a 12-week curriculum pocket MFA program this summer to continue his journey in education.

While at FuturesNW, Alan excelled at supporting families and students at Finacial Aid events, encouraging the team to practice gratitude, and working in collaboration to create stronger systems within our organization.

Alan, thank you for being a part of our organization’s and team’s growth. We are cheering you on in this next adventure and will savor your legacy of kindness and gratitude.

And because life is sometimes magical, we are lucky to introduce you to the newest WWU graduate of our team, Atiana Garza, as the new full-time interim Financial Aid and Mentorship Program Coordinator! Over the past 9 months, Atiana has worked with us part-time supporting, QuickStart to College, in-school mentorships, and Finacial Aid completions, all while being a full-time student at Western Washinton University and also working for the Western Success Scholars program. Atiana is self-motived, driven, hard-working, kind, thoughtful, smart, and so much more. We couldn’t be more thrilled with the opportunity to continue our journey with Atiana and have her join the team in a full-time capacity. Congratulations, Atiana!
