FINANCIAL AID DOCUMENT CHECKLIST

☐ Student FSA ID and Parent FSA ID

  • Students and Parent(s) should create an FAFSA or WASFA, and know their username and password in order to complete their financial aid applications online

  • Parents should also have an FSA ID so that they can electronically sign their student’s application – Otherwise, the signature sheet will need to be printed and then mailed.

☐ Social Security Number OR Resident Registration Number

  • Students should memorize or bring a copy, picture, or their actual social security card or resident registration number (often called Greencard number or Alien Registration Number)

  • Parents should do the same.

☐ State ID Card or Driver’s License

  • Students and parents will need their ID or Driver’s License Number.

☐ 2020 and/or 2021 Federal Income Tax Return Paperwork (aka: Form 1040)

  • Students should bring their parents and their own 2020 tax return paperwork if they plan to attend college anytime in 2022-2023

  • Students should bring their parents and their own 2021 tax return paperwork if they plan to attend college anytime in 2023-2024

  • Tax return documents can be obtained online at https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

  • Students and parents will be given the option to transfer their tax info into the FAFSA form using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT), but it does not work for everyone.

  • Examples of untaxed income include:

☐ Child Support Payments

☐ Interest Income

☐ Veterans’ Benefits

☐ Social Security Income Payments

☐ Disability Payments

☐ Life Insurance Payouts

☐ ROTH Retirement Account Income and IRA Income

☐ Records of current Cash, Checking, and Savings Accounts

  • Students and parents should bring a record (or a mobile app) of their current bank statements and cash on-hand.

☐ List of Colleges and/or Professional and Technical Schools

  • Students should bring a list of the top 10 colleges or professional and technical school that they would like to apply to.

  • Students do not need to have a complete list, especially if they know where they will be attending an event!
